Wednesday 23rd July, 2025
Jay and I woke up around 3.30am. Jay gets up early usually but that was extra! It was a bit drizzly outside, so we weren’t sure what the day held in store for us weather wise. To be honest I did want to go back to sleep but just couldn’t, so of course, I got up and had a cuppa tea. We had a few attempts at using the tap as it has the boiled water in it, but you have to push it and twist it, and I think we were awake physically but everything else hadn’t caught up yet!
After having a few more cuppas, Jay and I took ourselves for a walk around this gorgeous village. We walked up the road a little bit and through the horse tunnel that goes under the canal and found a pub (I’m sure Jay can sniff them out).
We then walked up a little further and found the beautiful church. It had the graveyard around it and there were so many old graves, the history there, wow the mind boggles. We followed the footpath that led to behind the church. This took us down past another graveyard, divided by trees. We stayed on the path and walked down the avenue of trees and stoned wall, imagining how eerie that would be in the dark of night. The path took us past a big field with cattle off in the distance and around the corner we came back to the pub. It was only 8-8.30 in the morning, so it was shut, phew!
We went back under the horse tunnel and walked along the canal, passing a number of narrow boats along the way. You could hear people having breakfast inside and getting ready to start their journey up the canal to their next stop. I would love to do that, it’s so peaceful and stopping in all the lovely villages and meeting interesting characters. Anyway, we ran out of path and walked along and across the old road bridge and started walking back along the canal, passing others walking their dogs or riding push bikes, all saying good morning. How easy is this walking caper when you have something new to see and explore. We weren’t that keen to keep walking, not knowing where we’d end up and if our legs would get us back, or if we would need to call someone to pick us up.
Walking back to Jeannies, we thought we’d check out Cosgrove Park which is like a holiday park. It had some lovely cabins for sale, but they weren’t cheap!! We popped into the shop at the park that was a general store and a cafe. They did a cooked breakfast, and it was really lovely with a nice pot of tea!! One of the ladies there has a son in WA in Secret Harbour. She runs the shop in the months its open and the other 5 months, lives in WA!! She said hearing our accents made her want to be there now.
We made our way back to Jeannies, wasn’t quite so easy to walk with full bellies but we got there, passing Irene on her way out for Yoga and catch up with friends. We just chilled for a bit while Irene was out, and Jeannie was working. I was nearly tempted to have a snooze but kept going.
We went into Milton Keynes about 12.30 and picked up our car. Then went to a huge shopping centre Mk Centre I think it’s called. We had a lil wander, changed some dollars into pounds and had a pastry and cuppa. Pan au chocolate for me.
Irene and I had a wander around a shop called Flying Tiger – look it up, it has all sorts of crap in it, I was like a kid in a candy store. I got Maxie and Henton (Jeannies Poppets) a lil gift in there and maybe myself a lil summin summin.
We found our way back to Cosgrove, while Irene was popping into Aldi. We just chilled for a bit and then Jay took himself for a walk up to the pub we found earlier but was back after one beer because there was nobody else there. It was 4.30 on a Wednesday arvo but I was still shocked that 1, he walked and 2, he was back after only one beer. We all then got ready and drove into Buckingham for a lovely dinner at Mey Mediterranean Bar & Grill. We shared some food, played some games and had a lovely evening. Back home everyone scooted off to bed because it was about 9pm. It was still light outside, that’s going to take a bit of getting used to.
Jay was already asleep by the time i’d finished in the bathroom and later through the night we had a guest join us in bed 
(lightening, the dog).
